“We want Xunaa Kaab’ to be the role model for other businesses.”
— Silvia Mendoza, Founder of Xunaa Kaab’ (Guatemala)
Xunaa Kaab’ is a family-run honey venture founded by Silvia Mendoza and her husband, in the western highlands around Lake Atitlán. Working with smallholder coffee-growing families, Silvia sources high-quality honey and sells to retailers, cafés, and artisan exporters. The family also runs a fusion restaurant with a renowned chef and offers eco-tourism experiences. By scaling her products and sharing her recipes with restaurants across Guatemala, Silvia aims to create additional income opportunities for rural producers and strengthen a responsible, locally rooted value chain.
“If we fall, we get back up and continue. Goals are meant to be reached, dreams are meant to be achieved — and we are an example of that.”
— Dina Pacheco, founder of Acuapónica Suán (Colombia)
Acuapónica Suán is a women-led aquaponics association in Suán del Atlántico. Over the past ten years, its 14 members have built a profitable fish-farming venture that enables women to earn their own income and invest in greater independence. By expanding their land and upgrading to larger tanks to raise higher-value fish, the group aims to scale their production and strengthen economic opportunities for women in the region.
